Friday In-Class Activity

Today's Assignment

We will be doing the assignment in your CW P. 424 today. You will post a comment to this blog with four sections. An example of what it will look like is on page 425 in your CW.

1. Write a topic you are interested in here.
2. Briefly explain why you chose this topic.
3. Write down what you know about the topic so far or anything else about it that comes to mind.
4. Start a list of questions about your topic (you may or may not know some of the answers). Don't post it yet!

When everyone is finished we will be moving around the room. Read number 1 and 4 before adding a question of your own to their list. After you have gone back to your seat you will post your comment to the blog, exit out of blogger, and log off of your computers.

  1. 1. Topic: Naturopathic Medicine
    2. I chose this topic because I feel the medical culture of the United States has become too dependent on pharmaceuticals and we need to look at other cultures and how their natural medicine is used for the same medical issues we treat with medication.
    3. Naturopathic medicine includes many types of practices such as; kinesiology, acupuncture, herbalists, and hydrology, etc. Naturopathic medicine deals with the entirety of the human being, dealing with the physical issues and physcological issues as a whole. When you see a naturopathic physician they tend to reccommend healthy diets to flush your system of toxins, they want you to take vitamins, and they also use alot of natural oils, and herbs with their work. The idea behind this is if you have a healthy mind and body you can prevent yourself from being sick. Naturopathic medicine works as prevention.
    4. Why are naturopathic physicians given less credit? Even though they have their PHD, and went to medical school?
What is wrong with using natural remedies to help prevent sickness?
How do we know what to trust in the medical field as it is? (ME)
Whats the benefit of Naturopathic Medicine? (kc)
    What is Naturopathic medicine? (AB)

  7. 1. Environmental awareness
    2. I chose this topic because I believe that we should keep the environment in the most pristine state possible.
    3. Being environmentally aware is very important because you can make clear educated decision that will help not harm the environment. There are many ways to go about educating the public. 8. 1. The Bridge to Nowhere
    2. I'm from the town where this happened and it affects my life when it comes to traveling in and out of Ketchikan.
    3. The Bridge to Nowhere was going to be a bridge that connected the island of Ketchikan to the island of Gravina. In order to get to the airport in Ketchikan, you have to take a ferry across the channel, a 4-5 minute ride. It costs 5 dollars for an adult for a one way ticket. The bridge would have eliminated the ferry and would have made it possible for cars to drive over at any time instead of having to load onto the ferry at certain times in order to get to the airport.
    4. Why didn't the bridge go through? Is it Sarah Palin's fault completely? Is funding for the bridge still happening? Will it ever happen? How much would it cost? How long would it take to build it? Would it make the lives of people living in Ketchikan easier? Or would it be about the same amount of trouble as the ferry is? Would it be cheaper in the long run than the ferry system? How high would it have to be in order for cruise ships and other ferrys to pass through? Or would it be a draw bridge?
Is the bridge even possible to build? JL
Will building ever resume?JL How much would it cost to finish building the bridge? BC How long would it be after completion? BC Why wasn't the bridge finished in the first place? WF
